Effect of KCl on Liquidus of LiF-MgF_2 Molten Salts

Liquidus temperature of KCl-LiF-MgF_2 molten salts wasdetermined based on cooling curve. The method of cooling curvewas reliable and accurate. Experimental accuracy has beenmeasured by the determined liquidus temperature of KCl. Themeasured value of KCl liquidus temperature of 769.27 ℃ is nearand comparable to the documented value 769.5 ℃. Thedifference value is 0.23 ℃, and the relative error was 0.03%.The results show that effect of KCl on liquidus of molten saltMgF_2-LiF electrolyte was great. The liquidus temperatureslowered with increasing of content of KCl in electrolyte. Theliquidus temperature could be reduced 20 ℃ with content of KClin electrolyte increased to 50wt%. The experiments showed thatthe compound addition of KCl into LiF-MgF_2 electrolyte not onlyreduced the liquidus temperature of electrolyte effectively, butalso decreased the aluminum-magnesium production cost andincreased the economic benefits.
