India has a total installed generating capacity of 86600 MW, out of this thermal capacity is 63040 MW, Hydel capacity is 21720 MW and nuclear capacity is 1840 MW. Almost 61 percent is owned and operated by State Electricity Boards. The rest is accounted for by the Central agencies like NTPC and NHPC and private utilities like BSES and TEC. Maharashtra State has a total installed generating capacity of 11582 MW, out of this thermal capacity is 8938 MW, Hydel capacity is 1602 MW and nuclear capacity is 190 MW.
