In this paper, activated carbon with large surface area (1660m~2/g), carbon black and polyvinylidenefluoride were prepared to electrodes for electric double layer capacitors (EDLC). Results show that activated carbon is suitable electrode materials for EDLC application with KOH aqueous solutions. The specific capacitance and energy density of EDLC are 0.82 F/cm~2 and 1.06 Wh/L respectively. The voltage drops increase linearly with the current density increasing and the resistance of EDLC is only 0.29 Ω. Moreover, EDLC maintains good capacity retention during cycling.
