This paper summarizes the preliminary results of arnbarrack deconstruction and material recoveryrndemonstration project at Camp Roberts, a CaliforniarnArmy National Guard installation in west-centralrnCalifornia. The project aims to generate revenue fromrnthe sale of salvaged building lumber, even lumberrncoated with hazardous lead-based paint (LBP), tornoffset the higher cost of deconstruction. Therndemonstration project will utilize an innovative MobilernLBP Removal System to plane the lead-based paintrnfrom the wood surface, and then remanufacture the deleadedrnwood into a variety of marketable consumerrnproducts, such as tongue-and-groove flooring andrnsiding. The data and findings from the project arerncurrently being analyzed to ascertain the cost benefit ofrnthe material recovery processes and the applicability tornDepartment of Defense facilities reduction activities.rnThe results will help determine if deconstruction couldrnbe considered as an economically viable process forrndiverting construction and demolition debris fromrnlandfills while generating revenue from the sale ofrnvalue-added reclaimed wood and other recoverablernmaterials.
