WHAT THE CLEAN AIR ACT MEANS TO YOUR SOLID WASTE SYSTEM A STATE IMPLEMENTATION PLAN EXPERIENCE

Improved air quality should be a goal of all of us. To achieve this goal in other Clean Air Act non-attainment areas, or areas approaching that status, industry leaders should be well informed about the intended and unintended consequences of various emission reduction strategies. Armed with this knowledge, they should be pro-active in the development of their local State Implementation Plans from the first opportunity. Only in this way will the full effects of SIP provisions be fully appreciated. In addition, it is important to ensure that the broadest possible approach is taken when regulators develop guidelines for evaluating potential emission offsets. In particular, the primary goal of ambient Ozone reduction should be the ultimate standard used when state and federal regulators develop and evaluate alternative emission reduction plans.
