Introduction to pneumatic conveying

This paper is intended to provide an introduction to pneumatic conveying technology, and to try to clarify some of the confusion that can exist regarding the range of commercially available systems. In so doing, definitions of lean and dense phase conveying have been discussed as well as modes of flow observed in conveying lines. Discussion then centred on both conventional and innovative conveying systems and emphasised the most important material characteristics that influence the conveyability of a material. Reasons for the development of innovative systems, these being the benefits of low velocity dense phase conveying were also briefly discussed.
