Coiled tubing (CT) is increasingly used in completion andrnworkover applications, especially as a deployment method forrnacid and other corrosive materials. The occurrence of internalrnwall loss and external pitting has become more common,rnespecially if proper tubing management is not followed. Notrnonly is there internal wall loss associated from the use ofrncorrosive materials, but also external pitting from severerndownhole environments as well as surface environments. Thernrecent industry down turn has reduced the utilization of coiledrntubing strings. This sometime causes deterioration of the metalrnquality through external and/or internal corrosion, particularlyrnwhen good maintenance procedures are not followed, andrnstrings are not properly protected from the environment. Thisrnbecomes costly, as strings are unable to be used to their fullrnlife potential or when a job failure occurs because of poorrnstring management.rnThis paper presents case data demonstrating that the use ofrnCT inspection and proper tubing management can avoid orrnreduce future job problems. The use of the describedrntechniques and good pipe management will in turn reducernsafety problems, and lost revenue due to pipe failures andrnshortened string life.
