Coiled Tubing Drilling – Expanding Application Key to Future

Since 1991, technology, people, methodology and commitmentrnhave played an integral and prominent role in thernadvancement, development and application of coil tubingrndrilling (CTD) as an alternative to conventional drillingrnsystems. Various geological formations have beenrnsuccessfully drilled with coil tubing drilling systems with thernCTD technology and methodology being continually adapted,rnimproved upon and evolved from its more traditional uses.rnThis evolution of the coil tubing drilling process is one of thernmost exciting and fastest growing sections of the coiled tubingrnindustry. Coiled tubing has become a competitive advancedrndrilling tool when used properly. A very impressive trackrnrecord has been established in Western Canada where coiledrntubing drilling technology has been utilized in mostly shallowrngas and oil properties to squeeze profits out of what mightrnnormally be considered marginal properties. In this manner therncoil has been used as an advanced economic drilling system inrnboth vertical and horizontal wells. In 95% of the operations thernwells have been drilled underbalanced to minimize formationrndamage, reduce drilling problems, and increase the rate ofrnpenetration. In many cases this process has eliminated thernneed for remedial stimulation of the wellbore.
