High-Pressure/High-Temperature Coiled Tubing Casing Collar Locator Provides Accurate Depth Control for Single-Trip Perforating

A North Sea operator needed precise depth control for a perfo-rnrating operation so that coiled tubing(C7)-conveyed perforating rnguns could be placed at a specified depth with a single trip into rna well.When development was begun，the best perforation rnmethod available to the operator was CT logging reels；however,rnthese reels are expensive and susceptible to electric-connection rnproblems．The use of wireless coiled tubing collar locators rn(CTCL’s)help eliminate the need for CT logging reels,but rnavailable CTCL’s could not withstand the harsh conditions and rnhigh temperatures and pressures of the operator's wells.rn This paper discusses the perforation technologies available，rnand the development of a high-pressure／high-temperature(HPHT)rnCTCL that solved the operator's depth-control problems．
