A Unique Rigless Casing Leak Repair, Ghawar Field, Saudi Arabia

This paper describes the successful field application of arnrelatively new rigless technique to repair a casing leak in arnsaltwater disposal well in the Ghawar field in Saudi Arabia,rnthe first installation of its kind in the Middle East. This uniquernrepair method utilizes an electric-line-conveyed, non-metallic,rncomposite sleeve composed of elastomers and thermo-settingrnresins reinforced with fibers. A description of the technologyrnis presented, along with a brief history of its development,rncharacteristics of the patch, and the installation procedure.rnThe candidate selection process, candidate well history, andrninstallation procedure for two patches are discussed, andrneconomics are shown illustrating that this type of repair wasrneconomically superior to a rig workover.
