Integration of vector and raster has long been a challenge to GIS design. This paper attempts to approach this problem by using the new designed spatial query language SQL/VecRas. Firstly, the integrated queries or analyses nvolving bot vecotr and raster data are represented by this language based on a high level view of vector and raster features. Secondly, the language is implemented by conducting the comibned operations directly through special algorithms without the mutual vector-raster conversions. The advantages of this approach lie in that SOL/VecRas provides a package solutin for vector-raster interoperation, simplify the process of problem solving, and reduce user's interaction significantly. It is expected that this novel approach can shed light on the interoperation of other data sources or other interoperation problems.
