Modeling Liquid-metal Boiling with the ATHENA Code

Preliminary boiler designs for Rankine space power conversion systems have beenrncompleted using a modified version of the ATHENA code. This paper describes the ATHENArncode, the code modifications needed to model liquid-metal heat transfer conditions, and thernevaluation of the code against experimental data. Preliminary design of boilers for 2x100 kW(e)rnand 2x250 kW(e) units are also presented.
