This paper aims to extend the application of stochastic response surface method (SRSM) tornreliability analysis of slope stability with implicit performance functions. The factor of safety for the slopernstability problems is calculated by the Sarma method. A brief introduction to the SRSM is presented. Anrnexample is studied to demonstrate the capacity of the SRSM for reliability problems involving implicitrnperformance functions. Results obtained from the SRSM are compared with those from the traditionalrnresponse surface method and Monte Carlo simulation. The results indicate that the SRSM can produce thernreliability results accurately and efficiently. The accuracy and efficiency of the SRSM are higher than those ofrnthe traditional response surface method. A second order SRSM is adequate to evaluate the reliability of slopernstability, whereas the traditional response surface method may not always yield sufficiently accurate results.rnThe SRSM can be taken as an alternative method for reliability analysis of slope stability.
