Granular Piles resist compressive loads by pile and bulging capacities. The failure modes ofrnsmall groups of granular piles range from simple punching of short GP, axial compression of long ones, tornshear buckling of peripheral GP. However, they offer cost effective alternative to expensive pile groups. Granularrnpiles can be made to resist uplift or pullout loads by a simple modification of placing an anchor at basernin form of steel plate, concrete pedestal and attaching the same to footing through a cable termed as GranularrnPile Anchors (GPA). The response of Granular Pile Anchors (GPA) could be as good as that of solid piles asrnthe load is directly transferred to the tip where the bulging capacity is very high. The paper presents the ratiornof the ultimate pullout capacity of GPA with compression capacity of GP in homogenous ground conditions.
