摘要

A freezing or thawing soil is a mixture of solid particles, unfrozen water, ice, and air. Modelingrnthe process of freezing or thawing in soils becomes complicated due to the multi-phase nature and the uniquernrole of soil porewater. The objective of this paper is to present a numerical procedure for simulating the transientrnheat transfer process in freezing and thawing soils using the finite element method. The first part of thernpaper is focused on the theory of transient heat transfer in freezing and thawing soils and it describes thernmathematical formulas used in the numerical model. The second part of the paper discusses the implementationrnof the numerical model into a finite element code and it includes both one-dimensional and twodimensionalrnnumerical simulation examples of freezing and thawing soils. The paper concludes with remarksrnregarding the numerical procedure.
