Based on the current study, elution of FGF-2 is dependent on the material form, and in general, elution increases with material surface area:volume ratio (powder > sheet). Ongoing studies are examining additional harsh methods to quickly degrade the materials to confirm the total amount of FGF-2 in each material, allowing normalization of elution rates. Additionally, in vitro degradation by more physiologically relevant (enzymatic) methods is being explored.
