摘要

The remedial measures conducted at the Montana Pole and Treating Plant federal Superfund site in Butte, MT included construction and operation of a land treatment unit (LTU) and biopiles to biodegrade pentachlorophenol (PCP) in excavated site soils. Both the LTU and the biopiles have achieved degradation of PCP and Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons. The biopiles were more challenging to design, construct and operate than the LTU, and generally did not treat the contaminants as rapidly as the LTU.
