In satellite electrical power systems, overcurrent protection is a very important function provided by Power Distribution Unit (PDU). In this work we propose a procedure to evaluate the actual protection proficiency, especially under the selectivity and speed of operation point of view, with an additional analysis on voltage sag amplitude and duration during the fault clearing operation. Analysis is based on the following features: Reliability, Selectivity, Speed of operation, Simplicity. Such a multi dimensional objective produces solutions strictly connected to PDU's architectural design. The proposed procedure, verifying that every single possible failure does not cause a propagation of malfunctions on the power system, allows complete evaluation of functionality of the protection system.
