Design for manufacture: a knowledge-based approach

摘要

The authors address the development of reasoning mechanism innorder to link design and its associated downstream manufacturingnrequirements. A specific example is presented using the design ofnaircraft flap components through a computer-based or CAD system whichnalso represents a framework for solving design problems in otherndomains. This forms the basis of a prototype to enable an evaluation andnanalysis of the reasoning methodology to be conducted, usingnartificial-intelligence tools. The prototype is designed to givenassistance at different levels in the design and manufacturing processesnincluding the introduction of novel methods of reasoning about potentialnproducts and manufacturing approaches
