In this paper,We firstly use the method of steepest descent (it is also called Saddlepoint method) to evaluate Bit-Error Probability of the ultra-long distance optical soliton communication systems with lumped amplifiers and compare these results with Gaussian approximation. It is shown in many literature that the method of steepest descent is numerically simple and efficient and give accurate results.
