Investigation of the Polarization Mode Coupling Coefficient

The polarization mode dispersion (PMD) is considered as the critical element limiting the rates in the modern high speed optical fiber communication systems. It is closely related to the polarization mode coupling coefficient (PMCC),so it's very important to study the PMCC. In this paper the formula suiting the PMCC is gained from the Helmholtz's equations. Greater PMCC which can be obtained by rotating the fiber preform during the drawing process is may be helpful to diminish the PMD. The rotating fiber with elliptical cross- section is analyzed and calculated in this article. The formula and some curves of it's PMCC are gained as function of the rotating speed v,fiber length z,mode spot size s and the eccentricity of the core ellipse e. The results show that the PMCC varies periodically with the product of the rotating speed and fiber length.
