By nature, the faculty of the University of Southern CaliforniarnSchool of Social Work are not users of technology for teaching.rnMost (not all!) use email, but many have difficulty sending orrnreceiving attachments. When I came to the School, I was handedrnthe task of helping a faculty, who are essentially people oriented,rnbegin to use and embrace technology for the delivery ofrninstruction.rnThis paper will explore how the use of technology for teachingrnhas been increasing as the result ofrn1. the tactical upgrading of equipment in classrooms tornmake it easier to access technology when teaching.rn2. the strategic upgrading of the equipment in facultyrnoffices to make it easier for them to use technology.rn3. attention to and the strategic support of faculty leadersrnwho are willing to try something new.rn4. the acquisition of technology “toys” for specific peoplernor purposes.rn5. ensuring the availability of training in the use of thernUniversity-supported course management system.rn6. enabling computing technology to make it easier for therntechnology-challenged to accomplish tasks they neverrnthought possible–from accessing networked file storagernspace from their homes to quickly and easily makingrndocuments available on the web for class.
