Abstract: K$-$alpha$/ emission is observed from a plasma produced by a high intensity contrast, picosecond, p-polarized laser pulse. The K$-$alpha$/ emission is found to be induced by hot electrons, which have a temperature of around 3 keV and carry up to 20% of the laser energy. Due to the relatively high K$-$alpha$/ yield, small source size, and short duration of emission, a high-peak spectral brightness x-ray source is obtained.!12
