The double cylindrical shell with rings is the main element of the hull of a submarine. The sound radiation from vibrating double cylindrical shell is an important issue in practical engineering. The statistical energy analysis (SEA) is a method for modeling vibro-acoustic behaviors at high frequencies where considerable modal overlap occurs. In addition to the disadvantage of requiring a huge computation effort for the finite element method simulation, at high frequencies, deterministic methods such as modal analysis are physically unsuited to the task. The paper shows some applications of SEA in submarine acoustic. The numerical results present the effect of physical and geometrical parameters of the double cylinder on the characteristics of sound radiation. SEA can be used both as a predictive tool prior to the construction of the physical model when its parameters have been analytically estimated and as an experimental aid in modeling an existing structure.
