Friction stir welding and related friction process characteristics

Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is a new solid-phase technique invented and patented at TWT (Ref.1) for the butt and lap welding of ferrous and non-ferrous metals and plastics. This paper describes recent developments in FSW, with brief reference to certain process characteristics common to many of the variants within fricition technology.
