Parallel implementation of the YH Limited Area Model on SP2

Parallel computer systems use high speed interconnect networks to link tens to hundreds of powerful RISC processors. The YH limited area weather model has been successfully parallelized and implemented on the IBM SP2 distributed memory scalable parallel system. The model employs explicit finite differencing techniques in time, and second order finite differencing schemes in space. It was parallelized using standard domain partitioning techniques in both horizontal directions. A parallel efficiency of 90percent was realized by using 32 SP2 'thin' processors.
