Recent work substantiates that several major Pb-Zn metal deposits and large, weakly metal-enriched high-sulfidation alteration systems of eastern Macedonia and adjacent Bulgaria are unequivocally related to sub-economic Tertiary Cu-(Mo) and Cu-(Au) porphyry systems, emplaced in metamorphic rocks of the Serbo-Macedonian massif. Porphyritic intrusions and porphyry-type alteration, weak mineralization, and spatially-related peripheral alteration and mineral systems, show large variability in their geometry, extent, overall metal contents, ratios of their metallic components, and degree of supergene enrichment, despite their occurrence within a relatively short arc segment.
