Totally enclosed, Spillage-free Conveying of Waste, Sludge and Materials for Recycling

A new and unique option for the handling of waste, sludge, bio solids, recycled products and residuals is presented in this paper. The paper will describe the technical advantages of the system and the experience from both municipal plants and industrial plants. The unique part of this new conveyor system, called the Sicon system, is the conveyor belt itself. The belt is folded into a pear-shape pocket, which encloses the transported material and ensures a spillage-free transport. Another unique feature for the Sicon belt is its ability to negotiate tight curves and steep inclinations. The Sicon conveyor is used world wide (six units have been installed in USA) and the applications includes the conveying of: 1. sludge at a municipality water treatment plant in Paris, France, 2. glass cullet from recycled glass in a glass wool factory in Sweden, 3. paper sludge at a paper mill in England, 4. potato residue at a starch factory in Holland, 5. waste used as alternative fuel at a cement plant in Norway, 6. FGD gypsum at a power plant in USA, 7. waste for incineration at a municipality central heating plant in Holland, Etc.
