STATCOM can play an important role in realizingrnflexible and low cost system planning, because it has thernadvantages of reinforcement of power transferrncapability in long distance lines and voltage stabilityrnimprovement for urban power systems. As a newrntechnology, GCT, a new power electronics device, isrneffective to realize compact, low loss STATCOM.rnFurthermore advanced system analysis tools arernrequired for low cost and reasonable STATCOMrnspecifications in the system planning stage.
