Generation Rejection and Remote Load-shedding: Implementing reliability criteria at Hydro-Québec

As part of a project to improve the reliability of its electricrnpower system, Hydro-Québec introduced a new specialrnprotection system (SPS) that would maintain system stabilityrnin an extreme event. To do this, the SPS had to be able to shedrnload and reject generation. Since operation of such an SPS canrncause major transmission system disturbances, its reliabilityrnwas closely monitored at all project stages.
