A MERMAID extraction was used to match MODISrnand SeaWiFS surface reflectance measurements up tornMERIS and in-situ observations over Europe to explorerndifferences between ESA and NASA Atmospheric Correctionrn(AC). Results show good agreement with insiturnfor MERIS, MODIS and SeaWiFS above 500nm.rnSeaWiFS showed the poorest correlation with in-situ atrnshorter wavelengths and MERIS showed the most consistentrncorrelation across all wavebands. The overall trendrnfor the MERIS and MODIS instruments was an underestimationrnof satellite measurements compared to in-situ,rnwhereas three out of five bands of the SeaWiFS instrumentrnshowed an over-estimation. The selection of incorrectrnaerosol models over the dominant in-situ sites AAOTrnand BOUSSOLE where sediment influences and springrnblooms complicate retrievals is discussed. Instrumentrnlevel dependencies are also considered. Suggestions forrnareas of further study are outlined to continue to explorernthese data trends and their origins.
