The Lesotho Highlands Water Project is a multi purpose project aimed at developing the water resources of the mountainous region of Lesotho through a series of dams, tunnels, pumping stations and a hydro electric facility. The primary objectives of the project are to: Redirect some of the water flowing out of Lesotho towards population centres in South Africa Provide water supply, irrigation and regional development in Lesotho Generate hyro electric power utilising the redirected water.
