This study was carried out during fatigue examination of the large-scale pressurized barrel article (2.5 meters long, 1.25 meters diameter) representing a generic fuselage structure. It was shown that strain/stress and displacement patterns around the barrel lap joint are strongly affected by internal pressure, and that pressure together with lap joint eccentricity can cause an anomalous deformation of the outer skin near overalp. An attempt was also made to correlate stress variation across the lap joint with the amount of cumualtive fatigue damage.
