Improvements in the wetting properties of wood surfaces may be improved by flame plasma treatment although the relative responsiveness and sensitivity of wood surfaces to the process varies greatly from species to species. For some species the process can be improved by moderating burner output and pass frequency although the apparent species specificity of this process may mean that "generalised" commercial process templates for more than a single species may not be possible. Early evidence based on failure mode suggests that adhesion performance may be improved although the results of further trials currently in progress are needed as confirmation of this.
