The Hokkaido Nansei-Oki benchmark of the International Workshop on Long-Wave Runup Models is solved for three progressively more refined unstructured grids, using a shallow water finite elmeent model that accounts for inundation. Numerical results capture well the trends (if not all the details) of observed run-ups along the Okushiri coast. Observed records of water heights along the Hokkaido coast are repoduced well in magnitude, but periods are significantly underestimated. In general, results compare favorably with previous efforts by the authors and by others, and show the importance of unstructured grid refinement to capture localized inundation effects.
