摘要

Ground and water contamination by chemical compounds is one of the greatest problems of our time. During the last two decades in Poland, 40% of accidents and catastrophes led to ground and water contamination, irreversibly altering their original properties. The level of degradation of the ground/water environment depends on the resistance of the ground to contamination, contaminant loads, their persistence in the environment and hydrogeological conditions. This paper presents a brief characteristics of changes in the properties of contaminated ground, provides basic criteria for evaluation of the resistance to contaminants, assessment of hazards depending on concentrations of oil derivatives discharged into ground and water depending on depth and location of the focus of contamination with regard to protected areas.
