Sulphur Characterisation in some soil series of Rewari District of Haryana, India

Depthwise distribution of different forms of sulphur were studied in eleven dominant soil series representing five sub groups viz. Typic Endoaquepts, Typic Haplustepts, Typic ustipsamments, Typic utifluvents and Typic ustorthents of Rewari district in Haryana. In general, except total -sulphur (S), all other forms of S decreased with the increasing depth of soils. Non-Sulphate-S was quite unevenlly distributed as it mostly contributed to the total sulphur (74.2%) followed by Hot-water soluble -S (17.9%), sulphate-S (14.4%) and organic -S (11.2%). All forms of S had significant positive relation with organic carbon, EC, clay content and silt+clay percent. All S-forms were found to be highest in Typic Endoaquepts, which is partially cultivated, when dry and lowest in Typic Haplustepts, which is cultivated and irrigated.
