Procedures are presented to design a pilot scale wastewater treatment unit (based on stabilization pond technology) of capacity 45 m~3/day to treat a portion of wastewater being generated at the NED University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi. The treated water will be utilized for horticulture development at the Campus. The plant will also be used as a 'Field Research Lab' for the department of Environmental Engineering to carry out research and development work. The expected cost of treated water would be Rs 8.8 per cubic meter of water as against prevailing cost of Rs 22.2 per cubic meter of treated water in the city. This will save NED university of Rs 13.4 per cubic meter of water used for horticulture. The plant is expected to be commissioned by the end of the current year.
