Using an Anthropometric Man-Model, What Goes Wrong?

At the SubFaculty of industrial Design Engineering of Delft University of Technology we work with the ADAPS program (Anthropometric Design Assessment Program System). This program enables the user to display a product or workspace together with a 3D anthropometric man-model. Besides being a research project, ADAPS has been used in education from the start on. During these years of teaching we found that several aspects of the use of anthropometric man-models appear to be difficult to cope with. This paper presents an overview of these aspects. Based on this overview we present some suggestions for what might be done to improve the usability of anthropometric man-models.
