Japan Storage Battery (JSB) has developed the 36V VRLA (valve regulated lead-acid) battery. 36V batteries in a 42V power system have to satisfy the large electrical power requirements of hybrid electric vehicle and the increasing power demands on modern automobiles electrical systems. A 36V battery is frequently charged and discharged at relatively large currents, which makes the temperature of the battery higher. Therefore long life technology in a high temperature environment is very important. That is the reason why our 36V VRLA battery was designed to meet power needs and elongate life at high temperature. Improved charge acceptance is also important in a PSOC (partial state of charge) cycle use. To achieve these objects, we employ ultra high-density positive active material, anti-corrosive grid alloy for positive plate, special AGM separator for high compression and additives to negative active material, combined with JSB's original technologies. We have also developed the SOC (state of charge) and the SOH (state of health) estimation technology.
