As the automotive industry continues to develop Hybrid-Electric Vehicle (HEV) technology, one important application of this technology is in the area of heavy-duty vehicles. This class of vehicle includes smaller trucks, such as delivery vehicles (UPS, FedEx, USPS); as well as larger vehicles, such as 40-ft buses and 60-ft articulated transit buses. Yet while these applications offer another vehicle platform that will greatly reduce tailpipe emissions and increase fuel economy, they also offer additional challenges for a successful energy-storage system. Designing a successful energy-storage system has been one of the necessary keys that is required to make these vehicles successful in today's marketplace.
