Supporting Knowledge Creation: Towards a Tool for Explicating and Sharing Mental Models

摘要

In accordance with the increasing focus on knowledge creation processes, the objectives of this paper are threefold: First, to raise awareness of the importance of explicating and sharing different mental models for knowledge creation in cross-functional teams. Second, to develop a list of requirements for a tool aiding human thinking and communication. The resulting level of formalization of knowledge lies in-between unstructured texts and full-scale ontologies. Third, to reveal that existing tools do not meet all of those requirements, thereby pointing out directions for future research and development.
