Theoretical transfer mobility functions computed with a forward seismic model of a verticallyheterogeneous visco-elastic half-space are compared with measured transfer mobility functionsfor vibration propagation in soils over a frequency range of 3Hz to 160Hz. Input data to theforward model include measured shear and dilatational wave velocities, estimates of soildensities, and porosities. The results of these analyses are integrated to obtain Line SourceResponses that are used by others to predict ground vibration from rail transit subway trains andpredict vibration impacts on sensitive structures. The theoretical predictions agree reasonablywell with measurements over distances up to 100m, beyond which transfer mobilities aretypically difficult to measure. Extrapolation of test results to long range ground vibrationresponses with the seismic model are discussed.
