INDUSTRIAL VALIDATION OF AN ORIGINAL METHOD FOR LIQUID RESIN INFUSION SIMULATION

We propose a full model in order to simulate liquid resin infusion (LRI) based on the work of P.rnCelle [1]. The process is split in three steps: initial compaction of the dry preforms, filling of thernmold and “post-filling”[7]. The “post-filling” phase makes reference to the flows that may occurrnafter vent and/or gate closure, due to residual pressure gradients. This approach leans on a threedomainrndecomposition (distribution medium, impregnated preforms, dry preforms). It consists inrncoupling the Stokes flow in the distribution medium and Darcy flow in preforms. Furthermore,rnthe mutual influence of the resin on the preform behavior and the preform deformations on thernpermeability are considered through Terzaghi’s law and explicit computation of the permeabilityrnfrom the preform fiber content. Finally, a method is proposed based on resin mass conservationrncoupled with the mechanical response of the preforms to simulate the “post-filling”. We willrnpresent the original numerical methods developed in order to make stable and reliable thisrnapproach together with experimental validation on industrial cases, such as “T” stringers.
