The task of a SAR helicopter is to save life. The entire rotorcraft system, of which the Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) is apart, is designed for that task. The EFB itself is a mobile front end to the helicopter, and with the right software itbecomes a removable piece of it. It should always be with aircrew, informing them of the best ways to operate theiraircraft.The utility of the software on the EFB is critically dependent upon providing a good user experience and, therefore, upongood interface design. This means gaining a deep understanding of what the user is trying to do, and matching it withfunctionality that is as easy to use as possible.The EFB should be an aid to airmanship: reducing workload, increasing safety and enhancing their situationalawareness.
