The production of special concretes for the civil construction industry represents an advance in concrete technology, being lightweight concrete an alternative. Many researches have been achieved in order to point out solutions to the voluminous quantity of residues generate from the different industry sectors, which have caused serious environmental problems; this is the case of E.V.A. (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate), material vastly used for shoe soles in the shoe industry. This research has as objective to evaluate the mechanical characteristics and durability of concrete using a mixture of lightweight aggregate (E.V.A. residue) with conventional aggregate, as coarse aggregate, in production of lightweight concrete with density of approximately 1750kg/m~3, as well as its viability for its use in industrial scale. Different proportions were studied varying the purport of substitution of conventional aggregate (BC) for lightweight aggregate (BL), in proportions of 60% and 70% and the relation water/cement in 0.46, 0.60 e 0.68; maintaining the mortar purport constant in 53% and the slump in 5±1cm. The results obtained showed that the incorporation of E.V.A. in concrete is a viable alternative for civil construction, not only technically but also economically, considering the satisfying results.
