The elimination of vibration for the compaction of fresh concrete and of the conventional reinforcement makes the use of steel fiber reinforced self-compacting concrete (SFR-SCC) beneficial in terms of cost reduction and improvement of the work environment. Along these lines, the present paper deals with the development of SFR-SCCs following a simple mix design methodology, previously applied to high-strength self-compacting concrete, which is based on optimizing the paste and the aggregate skeleton separately before final trials on concrete. Self-compactability is characterized through the slump-flow, V-funnel, L-box, box-filling capacity, U-box and J-ring tests. The results show that self-compactability can be obtained even with the incorporation of up to 40 kg/m~3 of steel fibers. Prototype trials have been satisfactorily with reference to the placing of concrete using pipes for repairing the bottom faces of girders and other similar elements, and for the construction of thin walls.
