INVESTIGATION ON LARGE - SCALE BULGARIAN SOLAR INSTALLATIONS FOR HOT WATER PRODUCTION

More then 50,000 m~2 solar collectors’ area have been built in the country up to the year 1990rnwhen Bulgaria was a leader in Eastern Europe in design and production of solar installations.rnThese were mainly large scale (more then 50 m2 ) steel type solar installations. The investigation ofrncurrent status of the installations is the main goal of the paper. A team of specialists visited morernthen half of installations. As a result it was estimated that majority of installation are installedrnbasically at tourism branch (at the Black Sea coast) and at industry and public buildings (all overrnthe country). 54 % of the tourism branch installations are still working. Lifetime of the workingrninstallations is 50 % to 100 % more than calculated lifetime of these constructions. At industryrnbranch only 8 % of installations are still working, 44 % are dismantled and 44 % are shut down.rnThe main problem is the corrosion process of steel collectors and degradation of absorbers.
