ANALYSIS OF POSSIBLE FINANCIAL INCENTIVES FOR URBAN USERS OF RENEWABLE ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES

The penetration of domestic renewable energy technologies among the urban users hasrnbeen far below their estimated potentials even with several financial and fiscalrnincentives provided by the Government of India and various state governments. Arnmodest attempt in this paper has been made to study the effect of providing capitalrnsubsidy, interest subsidy (in the form of low interest loan on the installation and use ofrnrenewable energy systems), and accelerated depreciation related tax benefits providedrnon the investments made for solar energy systems. Results of some numericalrncalculations are presented and discussed for the case of domestic solar water heatingrnsystems and solar photovoltaic lanterns.
