Based on the premise that the probability distribution of random parameters is known, the reliability and reliability sensitivity of the damage life of ceramic cutting tool is analyzed. Firstly, the random parameters of non-normal distribution are equivalent normalized by the equivalent normal distribution method, and then the saddle-point approximation theory is employed in solving the reliability of damage life of ceramic cutting tool. The saddle-point approximation method is proved accurate with higher speed in comparison with the Monte-Carlo method. Therefore, combining the saddle-point approximation theory with the sensitivity analysis method, the reliability sensitivity of damage life of ceramic cutting tool with respect to the mean value and the variance of the random parameters is calculated. The proposed method developed the reliability analysis theory of ceramic cutting tool.
